MEMBERS It was a sad month with the passing of two High Elms members. Pat Larrett who was a longstanding and stalwart member of our Ladies section and Malcolm Burton one of our past Captains. We send our sincere condolences to their families.

IVL & KENT COUNTY EVENTS Awaiting the start of the Season. SENIOR’S CAPTAIN Captain’s Report for March 2020 My final report, you’ll be pleased to note, and not much to report. The weather has been atrocious and yet I feel we have been fortunate in having parts of the course open on many occasions, thanks to the hard work of the green keepers. Competitions have been reaching their climax and winners have been slowly
emerging. We have our annual dinner to look forward to, on the 6th March and last year’s winners will be presented with their trophies amongst much applause, a few glasses of Plonk de Plonk, and that steely look golfers get when they promise themselves they will be among the winners come this time next year. I am sure that the meal will be as sumptuous as usual thanks to the kitchen staff who always do us proud. I have only been able to play nine holes on my doctor’s advice and in the two competitions that I played in both teams – without me for the last nine have come first and second from which you can draw your own conclusions. I have enjoyed my tenure despite its ups and downs and have been supported by a lot of the members, which of course means mostly my vice-Captain Barry Brazier. I could have asked for more support in my endeavours, like the Friendly matches and Spring break but I am be thankful to those on whose shoulders responsibility usually falls i.e. the Committee and a few stalwarts. There are still three places available on the Spring Break, so get rearranging your calendar and join the jollity of golf in other pastures, not literally. With Brian Reams able assistance I have tried to vary the Wednesday Fun Days, but have been amazed at the inability of some to accept change and embrace the new and different, the same people I might add that complain about fun days as being boring and pointless – no pleasing some. Will I look back with regret or pleasure on the last year? A mixture of both but mostly pleasure, most members are enjoyable company even those with idiosyncrasies and I can always guarantee a laugh with most who can see the funny side of most situations, and are thoughtful and supportive, so thanks to you for making my year tolerable and bring on 2020. HEGC CLUB AGM The Club AGM was held on the 18th February and was well attended by both the Ladies and the Mens Sections. Rather disappointingly the Seniors were only represented by 7 members. Bearing in mind we field at least 35 – 40 members playing on Wednesdays and the Section is considerably larger than that, the attendance was pretty poor. I hope our Section’s support for the Club will reflect a greater interest next year. SENIOR’S ANNUAL DINNER AND PRIZE PRESENTATION The Annual Dinner is to be held on the 6th March. It would be much appreciated if anyone has a prize to donate towards the raffle on that evening. If you have something, can you give it to Len Tutt preferably by Wednesday 4th March.
